Unleashing the Colors of Love: A Glimpse of New York Pride 2023
– The Colors of Love –
The history of Pride in New York City is as vibrant as the city itself. It all began in 1970, a year after the seminal Stonewall Uprising, with the first-ever Pride March, a demonstration of civil rights and a protest against anti-LGBT policies and attitudes. The RUMBO community, an embodiment of love and diversity, once again marked its presence at Pride New York 2023, carrying forward the legacy of its engagement in 2022.
The 2023 Pride March was held on Sunday, June 25. The march route kicked off at 25th Street and 5th Avenue, journeying south, then west on 8th Street, continuing on Christopher Street past the historic Stonewall National Monument, turning north on 7th Avenue, and finally concluding at 16th Street and 7th Avenue.
This year’s theme, “Strength in Solidarity,” resonated powerfully amid increasing attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community. The theme highlighted the importance of unity and support to counteract fear and intimidation, illuminating the unlimited potential of solidarity. The event was graced by notable Grand Marshals like actor Billy Porter and civil rights trailblazer Randolfe “Randy” Wicker, with actress Angelica Ross returning as co-host and featured performer.
RUMBO was not only there to witness the event but to capture it. We invite you to relive the captivating hues of Pride 2023 through our lens. Feel the energy, the solidarity, and the diversity of love that was present at this year’s Pride.
